Frequently Asked Questions
What is an LI/TD Magnet School?
Our magnet is an academic magnet. The Learning Immersion program is for students in grades K-2. It provides academic rigor with a focus on Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Students learn through projects and solve real-world problems. The Talent Development program is for students with TD certification in grades 3-5. This program provides full-time gifted instruction for these certified students. It offers an accelerated, rigorous approach to the Common Core standards. Students participate in a variety of projects and problem-based learning opportunities.
How do I enroll my child in the magnet?
Students can only enter the magnet in grades K-2, unless they have TD certification. You must participate in one of the two lotteries that occur each school year. You apply to the lottery for the next school year. Once the lottery closes, Student Placement will notify you of your placement. All siblings must participate in the lottery in order to receive the younger sibling guarantee.
Can I get transportation?
If you live in the violet and the West Meck High School feeder in the blue zone, you may be eligible for transportation, however, you must still apply for a stop on the CMS transportation web page.

Many students who participate in LI are strong future candidates for the Talent Development program beginning in third grade. This program is designed for students who are ready to move at a faster pace through more rigorous curriculum.
We welcome your interest in the LI program at Tuckaseegee and invite you to visit our school and see LI in action. Students who enter the Learning Immersion Program in K-2 remain at Tuckaseegee and continue in LI for grades 3-5.
What is Talent Development?
The Talent Development program is a CMS program for students with gifted certification. All students are tested for the gifted program in second grade and are eligible for placement in Talent Development classes at an LI/TD Magnet School in third grade.
The TD classes at Tuckaseegee are designed to provide full-time, rigorous instruction using a variety of teaching strategies. Teachers are facilitators in the classroom and students take responsibility for the their own learning. We do this through projects, problem-based learning opportunities, perseverance in problem-solving, and by providing choice for students.
Our Talent Development classes are a 3-5 multi-age. Students are grouped in classes with third, fourth and fifth grade TD students. This grouping fosters a sense of community and collaboration among students of different age groups. Just as in real-life, students learn to work cooperatively with peers at different ages and abilities. Student groupings change throughout the day based on student readiness, interest and learning styles.
